El Rey Del Rock & Roll

Today we add a little latino Rock & Roll flavour to the 'Onion'. Eddie Con Los Shades was as you can see by the LP cover pictured below Freddy Fender (born Baldemar G. Huerta) the late great Tex/Mex Conjunto singer and musician who died last year. He recorded the album for Ideal Records in 1961. Arhoolie Records later re-released it on CD. It can also be found on the LP 'Desperate Rock 'N' Roll Vol 11'.

Tony of 'Tony & Charley' fame was born in Holland as Sigfried Anthonius Den Boer Kramer but changed his name to Tony Ronald. He had a band called 'The Kroners' and he moved to Spain in the 1960's when he recorded this track. I think escucha means listening in Spanish but this has to be the oddest Latino cowboy yodelling record I have ever heard. I have also found reference to another Spanish band recording this song namely Los H.H from Seville. Tony's version can be found on the CD 'El Loco Rocanrol Vol 2' on Floridita Records.

Fantastic! I've always loved the Fendermen version of this tune and this is just as good if not better!
