Frat Rock was garage rock before there was garage rock — big, dumb party music that was raw, ragged, and fun.
I'm stepping back into the sixties with these two classic singles. I have the various volumes of 'Frat Rock' originally issued on vinyl by Rhino Records but you can find the tracks on the 4CD compilation they re-issued in 1998.
The first track was orginally at hit for The Tams but Bill (from Virginia Beach, Virginia) recorded and released it in 1969.
New Orleans artist Chris Kenner was the writer of this 'soul' classic. Cannibal & The Headhunters were a Chicano East L.A band playing the circuit alongside The Premiers, The Blendells and Thee Midniters. This track reached No.30 in the Billboard charts in 1965 so it's not so obscure but it is mighty fine.
